I was looking for a good waterproof compass that I could mount on my bike light and tell where I'm going without having to dismount or take off the light, and I basically got exactly that. The pictures don't really do this thing justice because it doesn't SAY waterproof, but there are NO holes in it for rain water to get in, so it basically is. Also, I went ahead and clipped the safety pin off the item so I could glue the flat mountable surface onto the light, which worked perfectly. It's hard to see that part of the item from pictures. Also, although I was a bit disappointed that the green arrow doesn't stay straight ahead and upright like the pictures show, with only the directions being the one to shift, I can work with the system it does set up where you have to stay in back of the white dot and the globe inside moves whatever direction you are going in directly across from that dot (with no definite indication). Stuff like that probably should have been either shown clearer in pictures or explained on the packaging with maybe a graphic or picture somehow. So in the end, it was a gamble to buy, but a cheap gamble that paid off. The only other POSSIBLE drawback is that the fluid inside holds up the movement enough to where if you want to use it like I do, you have to slow down or stop bike movement and wait for it to settle first to a stationary position for the reading. But that's ok because there are plenty of natural stoppages on a ride anyways and it never requires a dismount. You just have to make sure that you're always directly in back of the dot and looking across to the front of the globe.Read full review

Have used ball compasses for years, just pin on a vest or clothing, and at a glance you can tell what general direction you are heading. Great little product!

Many years ago I bought one of these. I took it with me everywhere. It was ALWAYS accurate and dependable. I even took it with me to Australia where I lived for 14 years. It proved to be both accurate and dependable there as well. If you want a small lightweight accurate compass that doesn't require batteries or satellite signal, this is the go!

sturdy clip and brass pin will keep it on you . great for basic navigation , this brand Coghlan's was finished much better than other similar products which were almost the exact same product . all plastic edges were trimmed and smooth and the fastener was sturdier than the key chain models

I've used a compass like this for years. Now I bought four of them for my up and coming grand kids. They are excellent and always in view when worn properly. the price is unbelievable and made a great stocking stuffer.
