A little girl in lovely Nordic clothing wants to become one of Santa's elves and is assisted on her quest by several northern animals. The photographs (obvious photo-shopped) are stunning. I appreciate that the author lets the reader decide whether this "really" happened or is a dream. I particularly like that, before Anja sets off on her quest to become one of Santa's elves, she does not just one but several kind deeds for a neighboring old woman. Children need to realize that it is within their capabilities to do all that they can to make the holidays nice for other people. Unfortunately the Santa, while a right handsome old elf, is a very American Santa. It would have been nicer, in a Nordic story, if Santa had been a tomten or a jules nissen or some other kind of Scandinavian Santa figure. Children who still believe in Santa, and adults who delight in children who still believe in Santa, should enjoy this book.Read full review
