This Stevie Ray Vaughan video is awesome. The camera happened to be there to record another act and they just recorded Stevie for practice which resulted in one of the most incredible live recordings not only of his musical career, but possibly one of the best live recordings of all time. It's too bad his life was cut short, as we would have experienced many more Stevie Ray patented guitar licks, and new tricks. He never received the credit he deserved for being a guitar wizard. Watch this video and try to not be amazed at what he does with that guitar. I guarantee you will not believe your eyes or ears.
I ordered two SRV live performance DVDs, they were Live at Montreux and this. I have to say that the Montreux 2-disc set feels much more complete than this one. This is just a straight live performance at a club with little extra, while Live at Montreux has two performances from a Jazz festival, set three years apart. That set includes guest appearances by Johnny Copeland, who joins SRV on three songs, and a documentary with John Mayer, Jackson Browne, and Double Trouble reflecting on the performances. It also includes a neat insert featuring pictures of the band, quotes from SRV and other famous musicians reflecting back on the performances. I watched El Mocambo first, was satisfied with it, but not blown away. Then I watched Montreux and realized that it blew Mocambo out of the water. If you're just a casual SRV fan and want the live experience, then I suggest you go for Montreux instead.Read full review
If you never got a chance to see SRV live this is as intimate as it gets. recorded in a club for the supporting tour of his first CD, it's just incendiary. i do believe this was his "pre-sober" era. You could never tell by his playing but the buckets of sweat are a giveaway. During Texas Flood he does this little spin move and the guitar is behind his back, he continues to play and sing better than we could copy with our instrument out front. i could go on and on. if you're looking to learn SRV skip the Koch videos and go straight to the "Real Deal" SRV. Or just sit back and enjoy as a fan.
This DVD of SRV & Double Trouble live at the El Macambo is truly a must have for any SRV fan. Stevie's musical genius is captured very well at this show. If you play the guitar pick this bad boy up, you wont be sorry. SRV blows the paint off the walls at this concert. The disc also has very interesting interviews with the bassist and drummer of Double Trouble. They talk about what they remember from the show, and how it was really a magical night.
THIS IS A GREAT DVD. My Husband is a Big Fan of "Stevie Ray Vaughan" I THINK THIS VIDEO SHOWS THE TONE HE HAD QUITE NICELY. THIS DVD MAKES ME WISH MORE AND MORE THAT I COULD SEE HIM LIVE. YOU SEE AND HEAR PEOPLE AND ARTISTS NOW A DAYS THAT TRY TO IMITATE THAT TONE. ITS NO USE TO EVEN TRY BECAUSE OF THE PASSION, AND POWER THATS QUITE NOTICABLE IN HIS GUITAR PLAYING. I RECOMMEND THIS DVD TO ANYONE. IT IS THE SLOSEST THING YOU WILL GET TO SEEING HIM LIVE. {Mrs Puman}
