I purchased volumes I and IV, but not II and III. Volume I has an overview history of Broadway musicals, Vaudeville, movie musicals, the shift from cylinders to disks as the medium for recordings, and the recording industry through the Depression, WWII and the end of the big bands. Chapters for each year 1900-1950 have entries of varying length on musicals and movies for that year. The 4th volume indexes popular records released by 9 record labels. The amount of information complied is immense as far as it goes. My caveat is that the focus is mainly on the electronic recording beginning 1924, and information on earlier years recordings is too thin to merit the claim that the series is "complete". Nevertheless, they are worth the purchase.
