What I purchased was a replacement copy for a book that had been previously damaged, thats why I can write this review bofore it has even arrived. Paul S. Dull has written a masterful easily readable definative history of the Second World War Pacific theatre campaigns. For the student of naval campaigns this work is a must have! No military history library would be complete without this work being on the shelf. His precision in replicating tactical decisions on the pages complemented with battle movement maps allow the reader to get a complete overview of each of the major engagements from ABDA's formation to Attu Island! A must have!!
As WWII Naval history is written, this is a wonderful mix of the forces involved in the naval battles, with insight into the mentality of the opposing sides. Why each side attempted their maneuvers for their strategic and tactical ends is explored to the satisfaction of the reader. For the technical geek, these is also disposition of forces, with regard to the fighting ability of each side. Many maps supplement the text as naval battles are chaotic in nature.

Very insightful account of the war from the Japanese point of view along with provocative analysis of the overall campaign itself. A MUST HAVE for any students of WWII!
