When I first heard of this movie I was attending inquirer's classes at a Missouri Synod Luthern Church. The pastor urged us to go see it, but it was only being shown in a small town an hour away so I didn't go. I read other reviews on your site of this movie. One customer said he was disappointed that it was an old movie and not the new one. I am not sure, but the 2004 date seems to coincide with the new one. I attended these inquirer classes in the Fall of 2003. I don't think the movie was out yet, so the 2004 date may be correct for the new one. But whichever one it was, It was great. The acting was superb! I especially found the actor playing Martin Luther very convincing. Actually the whole cast was good. It was long by today's standards, 144 min. But yet when it was over, I wished it was longer. I did not mind the black & white, in fact it seemed appropriate for the Middle Ages. Carl HanesRead full review

I was told this was a Hollywood production. I wouldn't have known it; I found myself clapping at two scenes in the movie! This is true to Luther's views of soteriology, sacerdotalism, and sacramentalism. The acting is superb, and the story is suspenseful. I couldn't recommend a movie more highly. It far surpasses the modern "Luther" movie.
I love the theology of Martin Luther. I have recently been encouraged by his teachings, and how he relates everything back to Christ. If you are not familiar at all with his teachings and books and videos, please check him out.
When I bought this DVD, it had the year 2004 on it. I thought this movie was made in 2004, but it is actually a very old black and white movie. Although the movie might have been good for its time, I was disappointed that it was not newly made.
