As a Star-Trek fan, I always wanted to understand the "timeline" of the future. What is the events order and what comes first and what comes second. As every Okuda's book, also this one is very detailed. It's easy to follow the series (especially the TNG), as Okuda offers his answers to gaps and jumps in the series timeline. Unfurtunately, the book is printed B/W, without any clue for colors. Also pictures comes random. With it's drawbacks, it's still a must-have for every Star-Trek fan.
First, know that there are 2 editions of this book. The 1993 edition only goes through Next Gen 5th season, and has only B/W illustrations. The 1996 edition goes through all Next Gen and some Voyager. This one has color photos. The cover of the '93 edition has crew pictures and the '96 edition is more colorful, but be cautioned that sellers don't usually match up the correct cover pix with the edition they are selling-check the copyright date. Second it's a great book and a fine companion to anyone who owns any of the series on DVD. You'll spend hours flipping back and forth checking dates and other trivial matters while watching the show. A must for any trek fan, any decade.
Although I disagree with it's view of origin, I am very happy to own it because of all the information about Star Trek.
