Daniel does a fine job with his story of the Army of the Cumberland. While there have been exhaustive and compelling volumes on the other central armies of the North and South, the story of this army has largely been neglected. Daniel used an enormous amount of primary and secondary sources for his work and it shows. Anyone interested in the western theater of the War of Northern Aggression should add this book to his/her library. It's normally cheap and well worth the money.
