The stories; now a bit dated, but only because society has moved so far, so rapidly; show us what life was like in the early 1980s. Sterling performances combine with an excellent script and sure-handed direction make the entire series well worth watching.

I have been a fan of Armistead Maupin's Tales series for a long time, and even though the books are much better than the Showtime series, they are still great. Some of the casting in the second and third installment is a bit uneven, I preferred the original Mona and Michael, but Laura Linney is excellent and Olympia Dukakis is fantastic as always. If you live anywhere near San Francisco the miniseries is a delight, but even if you don't, it's a great tour guide of the city. I highly recommend reading the entire series, all six books, to find out what happens to Mary Ann, Brian, Michael, Mona and Mrs. Madrigal.
Story line continues in this series. Plots are some what simplistic and events contrived, but if you enjoy the characters this does not matter. It is light fare, but still entertaining. Technically is a good production. The nudity does not add to its value.

Synopsis: Based on the novel by Armistead Maupin, TALES OF THE CITY chronicled the lives of six apartment dwellers in a complex owned by an eccentric during the 1970s. This second sequel (following MORE TALES OF THE CITY) to the original finds the 1970s over and the 1980s just beginning. Set in 1981, FURTHER TALES once again follows the residents of landlady Anna Madrigal's building, who have all matured since the last installment of the series. Mary Ann (Linney) has become a career woman focused on becoming a TV journalist and has even persuaded former ladies' man Brian to settle down with her. A few new faces from beyond Barbary Lane change the look of the series, but Mr. Maupin's combination of big city life and small town relationships help keep FURTHER TALES just as charming and engrossing as the original. Chronicles that takes you back to Barbary Lane and all the loveable characters. Based in the beginning of the 1980s, drama and keeps you at the edge of your seat. I love the series. Hope that there will be a 4th series soon. If you follow the books, Mouse Lives would be or should be the next installment. Obtain a copy today here on eBay. You can find some great deals!
