This is my second American Heritage Picture History of the Civil War book. I bought my first when I was ten and had looked/read it extensively. The book, however, did not follow me to college. While I was away, my parents had mistakenly given it away. I enjoy how complete it is and the color depictions of the battle maps are very helpful. I would recommend to anyone wanting to learn about the American Civil war.

This is an excellent book for the Civil War buff. It gives you an overview of the main battles,the main players involved and many pictures of some of the events and those people involved. The auther is one of the best researchers of his time and can be easily read. I have other works by him, including a three volumn history of the Civil War, and find them well written.
