"The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn", by Samuel Langhorn Clemens, better known as Mark Twain, is a fun and funny, timeless, first-class classic that still entertains and enchants almost 140 years after it was written. Considered Twain's finest work, it is the story of Huckleberry Finn, Tom Sawyer's pal, and the runaway slave Jim. They are forced to leave their old haunts and decide to take a trip down the Mississippi River on a crude raft...their subsequent adventures are depicted in a thoroughly witty and charming manner, with Twain telling the story through the eyes of the young hero, in the language of his region of birth-the first time this method of writing was ever used, and adapted by many later authors. Twain's imaginative tale is a treasure for the centuries. He was NOT a racist, but uses the language of his day in telling the story...overly-sensitive modern readers have taken offense at this story, but their disdain is entirely unjustified. I first read this as a high school student and have read it a number of times since, and enjoy each reading as much as the first time. Read it with an open mind, and just enjoy Twain's masterful telling of a truly classic story!Read full review
I was born and raised near where this story began, so I can relate to the language and words used. And the way of thinking. Twain's imagination is amazing and I found the story of Huck Finn and his pals fascinating. Read it and broaden your perspective.
