Like any book write by current event/political pundints, you have to prepare yourself to understand their point of view. If you don't agree with thier ideas, you will not like thier writing. That being said, I liked O'Reilly's latest literary offering. I know he's generally labled as right wing, but I tend to take that stance and I think there are plenty of topics that he leans to the left on. I tend to get a little tired of him blowing his own horn, or his "I'm so tough, and everyone fears me" spiel. Overall, I enjoyed this book. I think enyone who enjoys Bill will enjoy him. And maybe this might just draw in some new readers. As always with any book like this, take what the author writes with a grain of salt. Because you really don't need someone else telling you how to live your life...right?Read full review
Maybe it's the changing times and maybe it is just that he's at the end of his 15 minutes, but Bill O'Reilly's latest book seems to be a reach away from anything realistic or relevant and into the obscure and unimportant in the realm of political and social discourse. There is something deeply human about the desire to find all the things scapegoats can provide: a vessel to bear one's anxieties and outrages, a target that won't hit back, a welcome distraction and I understand that there is a primal need to place blame when things look rough. But to scapegoat all of the important issues on things like "secular-progressive movement" instead of actually tacking the real issues is, well, cowardly. By spending so much time trying to make targets out of the left, all he is doing is avoiding the real issues of the day. No, we are not in a culture war. We are in a war with Islamic terrorist who want to blow up our public buildings. And no, the newspapers, NBC, CNN, and whomever are not ruining American. Instead, both sides are fueling a rhetoric campaign instead of focusing on anything of substance. Where is the hate for the real targets? You know, the ones who want to see our blood run through the streets? Why don't you talk about them? I wanted to see you discuss how pundits take so much time bashing each other that they don't have any time left to lead discussions on the real threats. It's like a having a childish "your momma" contest while people are shooting at you. Cultural Warrior just read as another political rag (there are equal amounts from both sides) that is both irrelevant and plays to the lowest common denominator. This book might have well spent 200 pages explaining how the color green is to blame for all of our countries problems. I for one hope that Bill finds a realistic target in the near future and concentrates his talents on doing more then just picking a fight with the other side. Any idiot can write a book on why they think the other side is bad -- and, evidently, there is an audience for that on both sides -- but it takes someone of courage to undertake a book in which the goal is to equip its readers with the knowledge to actually make a positive difference in the things that really matter and not to distract them with inconsequential scapegoats so they don't feel obliged to confront real dangers.Read full review
Bill says it like it is. The "Secular Progressives" in society have been changing our world, little by little for years. The MINORITY now seems to rule the country and the "agree to disagree" sentiment is NOT allowed to the MAJORITY. The SP's want to force the majority into compliance with their agenda. From the ACLU to the plot to end Christmas, Bill exposes the SP for what it really is - an attempt to take over our country and forever change the thoughts, ideas and beliefs that made America the greatcountry it is. Bill discusses how it happened and what can be done to take back our country. If you believe in traditional values, this is the book for you!
Wow do these libs hate the truth! Hey libs and other socialists, give some facts to back up what you say. You are giving away this great nation which was built on the heroism of our ancestors. You would sacrifice their sacrifices for your own agenda. The commies said in the 40's they would beat us from within and I'm afraid they are well on their way. Thanks Bill, someone had to start speaking the truth. Now when are we going to start a conservative aclu to keep the communists locked up in court all the time. We can beat them with the purse strings. Count on me for a large contribution!
I bought two books and gave one to my kids. Education on America's past, present, and future culture have been and will be important. I believe in America and I want to defend it in everyway with friends and associates. I want my kids to also understand where we are going and be able to inteligently discuss the issues with whoever they speak too. I have always been a fan of Bill O and have other books he has written and I love his views. I am a 20 year Army veteran and I understand what freedom is and I only wish more understood what our early ancestors have gone thru to provide us with the greatest country on earth. I have traveled to 17 countries and I kiss the ground every time I came home. If people don't like it here....then leave.
