Billy Joe and Eddy Shaver live and kickin' here. These guys are pure gold. There is no better country music. I discovered the gold on Austin City Limits and has a tribute to Eddy tat has a list of songs you can listen to that will motivate the listener to go on the hunt for ...MORE-MORE-MORE. One of Eddy's siblings asked, "papa, if Jimi Hendrix had lived, would he have got to be as good as Eddy?". Give him a listen and tell what your answer would have been. This album was the last known recording or live show Eddy Shaver ever did...and he died on December 31 2000.
billy on this album to me is like a country singer with a rock band and it was great. billy is one of the greatest songwriters ever besides being a great preformer. billy practically wrote all the songs except one on waylons honky tonk heroes album. Bobby bare also recorded alot of shavers stuff as well as tom t. hall who were both excellent songwriters in their own right. His son eddy really rocks out on guitar. Billy joe is true throwback with a rockin band. I think he needs to go back to that sound.
"Unshaven" may be second only to Humble Pie's "Rockin'The Fillmore" in placing the listener on-site and in the moment. It's also a sentimental favorite of mine because it took place at a local venue with local heroes manning the backline, not to mention the incendiary picking of Billy Joe's late son,Eddy. Relentlessly honest and enthusiastic, Billy Joe Shaver rocks through a staggerring collection of classic country-western songs, all of which he wrote. Indispensible and out of print.
great live music billy joe shaver rocks the stage and is an excellant entertainer you gotta check this one out!
This is the real deal. This is what every honky tonk should sound like. Billy Joe is in good form with his late son Eddy is on guitar, great in every song.
