I loved this book..read it a few years ago as I'm a child of history. And am Jewish believer in Yeshua...Man's humanity to man..versus man's inhumanity to man...Those people whether Christian or non Christian putting their lives before their own to take care of God's covenented people in a time when this was taboo..and many people died for this... Anytime man stands up to help those forsaken in society or follows Yeshua...they're is a price..But I bet if these people had to do it over..they would of without any reservations.... It really upset me to see how people could turn others in when only trying to help protect the desparate in society....
Especially in this politically turbulent time, it is refreshing to the soul to read accounts of how ordinary people -- often strangers - were willing to risk their very lives to provide aid and shelter to Jews trying to escape certain death from their local facist militias and German/SS Nazis. I've read other books by Martin Gilbert and always enjoy his thoroughness and ability to create images of important as well as the daily events which make up people's lives.
