How people think about God often dictate how they use God and how they live their lives. Froese and Bader have done research on images that American people have of God, and what this means for how they live. At some spots, the text reads like the research project that it really is. But if you can stay with it the writers draw very interesting observations and conclusions about these four Gods and the people who believe in them. The book is built around 4 understandings regarding images of God: 1. The Authoritative God 2. The Benevolent God 3. The Critical God 4. The Distant God These four central are then broken down, cross referenced and examined for impact upon the population who responded. They accurate explain the rationale for God as judgment and harsh and how this tends to allow followers of this kind of God to be harsh as well. They have an interesting discussion of how people see or experience God's involvement in human life, and they look at how this gets spelled out in how actual human beigs get involved themselves. God--Present and Future is a fruitful discussion of what lies ahead for these four "God-groups" and for people who see God in this way. The book does not justify certain human experiences that are based on belief in certain attributes of God, but it does help us understand why this happens.Read full review
