Keep in mind that I prefer Characters and Creatures both in 2D and 3D. After that, I like Spacescapes, Landscapes, and Spacecraft. For me, the book didn't really get interesting until 80 pages in. The Still Lifes and Vehicles, though well rendered, just didn't hold my interest. Still, for budding 3D artists, these do have value. Speaking as a lifelong 2D artist, I personally would've preferred more 2D and 3D art in the science-fiction, fantasy, and horror vein. Don't get me wrong, for a nice 3D render can be every bit as compelling as a well-rendered 2D illustration. I wasn't aware that 3DTotal published a magazine on 2D art until recently. I was impressed with what I saw until I read that it was an "digital only" magazine. That's really too bad, seeing that it was consistently superior to ImagineFX's actual magazine. Since 3DTotal has published this digital magazine for over 10 years, they have more than enough of an impressive back catalog to publish hard and softcover book collections featuring only 2D art. After all, they do actually publish a magazine showcasing only 3D art. Still, I got this volume (and Volume#4) well below retail. I can't really complain when I paid less than $12 for each book. For me, both books were a great bargain.Read full review
