I now need to catch up on the other books in Ms. Johnson's series! Loved the spunky Mandy Dyer who inherited a dry cleaners in Denver, Colorado, from her late uncle and is making a go of it, despite a few murders that just happen along the way! Mandy has had a long friendship with Kate Bosworth, so when she finds Kate strangled to death in her apartment after she brings Mandy a fabulous Fortuny dress to dry clean, her world seems to fall apart. Now Mandy is obsessed with finding the killer and her clues begin with estate sales and garage sales that Kate attended when she found the dress. The Fortuny dress is the key here.....worth several thousands of dollars and someone is willing to kill to get it back. What they don't know is that the police have taken the dress as evidence and refuse to make that public. So now with Mandy snooping around things get dangerous. Someone ransacks her apartment thinking she has the dress there since they didn't find it at the cleaners. One of the funnier characters is Betty the bag lady. Apparently she was in Ms. Johnson's last book and rescued Spot, Mandy's cat, from danger. Betty is now temporarily staying with Mandy in her small apartment after she accompanies Mandy to a swap meet and is pushed from the top of some stairs and hurts her ankle. The push was meant for Mandy. It makes for a lot of fun when these two match wits and words. Mandy has promised Betty a job at the cleaners but is having second thoughts, but there is a surprise ending on this subject! Back to the murder......Mandy's determination to catch Kate's killer leads her to some seedy places and in one she finds the body of a woman who could have led her to the killer. It's only by accident with her friend, Nate, that she comes across a big piece of the puzzle to know exactly who murdered Kate and the other woman. The ending makes for a roller coaster ride as she and Nate try to outwit a determined killer. A very enjoyable, well plotted book. Ms. Johnson as a good sense of humor. You learn a little about Denver and also the dry cleaning business with a tip at the end of the book.Read full review
