This is our dedicated edible graphics printer. The ink and paper are special to that purpose. So far it has worked well. My only problem was with the wafer paper feeding correctly. My test run ate the first piece, but putting a sheet of regular print paper in the tray fixed the issue. One nice thing is the graphics can be assembled in the office and WiFi lets the printer sit closer to the cake work. This is already fun.

Product was shipped without securing various panels closed and arrived broken with the front top panel broken off from the body of the printer, held on only by a small white ribbon cable. One end of a panel support leg appeared to have snapped off and could not be found in the box. I have another MG 5520 in the house and might have been able to put some of the pieces back together by comparing the two units, but it wasn't worth the effort to me.

I love this printer. It is easy to set up. It only took a short while and I did it mostly from my laptop and set it up in my phone. The instructions were easy to follow. The wireless feature works great. I have even printed from my phone. The colors are bright and the cartridges snap right in. I used small sugar sheets and they were easy to load and printed just fine. It also has a scanner which I have not used yet but will soon. The wafer sheets in my photos were as good as I expected. I am happy with this product and would recommend it.

It was a long process to install, only a minute to connect to Internet, and what seemed like forever to register online. Total set up time; approx 2 hrs!! Since it does not come with ink, and I am using it with edible cartridges; I cannot tell if the the poor print is a product flaw, or if it is the edible ink (I imagine it ages faster than standard ink) The images are good, but have inconsistent coloring. Maybe with better ink and photo paper, the results would be closer to that which is advertised. This model came highly recommended for production of cake stickers (edible decals) which is why I bought it. I will probably try a different brand of edible ink and see if that improves the quality of the print. Right now, I'm not willing to blame the printer itself. There are several functions of the printer, and places a menu on your display. I'm not tech savvy, so I will have to figure them out as I go...or as I have time to read the lengthy online manual. (I really wish the manual came with the printer)Read full review

The Canon PIXMA MG5520 is a great choice for college students looking for an exceptionally high-quality, reasonably priced, and easy to use printer that will print documents from a laptop or phone wirelessly. Criteria and Start-up I needed a printer for my college dorm room but was not looking for anything particularly fancy. I just needed a printer that was easy to use, reliable, and quick. Getting started was made easy by a set up CD, which was a huge help to a non-techy individual such as myself. Once the set up process was complete, I had very few issues with the printer. Photo Quality and Speed The printer’s photo quality is quite good, as is the speed of printing. Some of my fellow college students and I are no strangers to needing to print documents in two minutes or less between classes. The printer takes only a few seconds to turn on and printing time is very minimal. As a college student, I also needed to be able to print long documents on both sides of the paper. The auto duplex feature is fantastic for printing two-sided documents automatically, which saves paper and makes long power point presentations more compact. Ink Quality Some of the more mechanical things such as changing the ink can be a little confusing on other printers, but I was pleased to find that changing the ink on this one is easy. My first printer I owned had no instructions as to how to change the ink cartridges and finding them was a bit of a hassle. The MG5520 has clear instructions on the outside of the printer and the cartridges are easy to see. This printer does use up ink cartridges fairly quickly but the ink quality is wonderful. I am pretty into printing photos of settings in nature and could not be more satisfied with how clear the photos turn out. Noise Level The only real issue I have with this printer is that it is rather loud upon turning it on and likes to make random noises even after shutting it down. This is easily rectified though, as I just completely unplug it when I am finished printing. All things considered, I do not deem the noisiness of the printer to be particularly problematic in a college setting. Overall, I give this product five out of five stars. This printer was the perfect fit for my dorm life and it more than met all of my criteria. It is fast, simple, and reliable – everything a typical college student might look for in a printer!Read full review
