Bring a former female firefighter on the job [9 yrs. in Calif.]...I Had to get this DVD once I found it here on ebay. I'm new here, and it was a fluke I even found it. Thank God I did! It's an amazing video, so hit-your-gut, wrenching, so very much eye-opening about the events of that absolutely tragic day in our country. It brings some of the people, some of their personalities, so much closer to those who were not there in NYC, at Ground Zero, or in New York at all. That DVD made me cry my eyes out. In parts I sobbed. It cracked my heart wide open all over again. I still remember what I was doing at the time of the first plane hitting the first Tower. It's burned into my memory. This DVD was purchased because I plan on giving it to my kids, for their kids, and their kids next. I'm making them a collection because I don't want them to ever forget. My son is in the USAF so he "gets it", but I want him to be able to see the events happening again....so that he Really doesn't forget. And I want my daughter to remember just as much as well. The events in this DVD resonate in sorrow, a person can't help but be moved by the people's stories, what happened to them that day. Everybody who watches this DVD won't have a dry eye by the end of it. The video taken of people & events as they unfolded...it takes your breath away. I cannot urge you strongly enough to purchase this DVD for yourself & your family. The younger generation who weren't aware of what was happening on that date when war was declared [yes, WAR!, because that's what was declared when terrorists killed thousands of innocent people. People who weren't just Americans, but from more than 75 countries around the world]. Young people need to be made to understand the deep impact this had on the victims, their families, their friends, and others who loved them. Fathers, mothers, small children, grown daughters & sons, husbands, wives, siblings, etc. were lost that day. So many...some children lost both parents. More than eleven hundred children lost at least one parent. Some children have never even known, will never know, their other parent...that parent was killed by terrorists on Sept. 11, 2001. The psyche of America & our people were affected that day like on no other. Not even December 7, 1941. September 11, 2001 is a defining day in our history, and all the generations need to be reminded now and again who we lost, what we lost, the resolve that was born, the strength that was forged, the heroes who stood up. We lost more than 500 first responders that day, people who went rushing in, trying to save others, while everyone else went running out. Some of them knew, felt, that they would not survive...firefighters, cops, port authority officers, paramedics, etc....but went in and did their jobs anyway. Thousands of people were saved that day because of these men and women who stood tall in their jobs, who did not flinch, who faced an ultimate horror no one could ever imagine. Their families have reason to be proud of them, even while they still mourn. It may sound silly, but I salute the videographers who, in some cases, endangered their own lives to record for the world's eyes, for our own disbelieving eyes, the reality of that horrendous, unbelievable day. And I thank the producers for putting it all together. You won't be sorry for purchasing this DVD. It's an amazing chronicle of evil, of heroism, of survival, and resolute human beings. It's a must see.Read full review
After seeing this (Originally HBO) special on HBO, I decided there and then I must have this. From a strictly historical viewpoint, this mini documentary covers many of the subtleties of 911, as seen mostly through the eyes of Rudy Giuliani. Personally, as an amateur photographer and history buff, I appreciated many of the still shots taken by various individuals, and in some twisted way, almost wish I was there that day to document the carnage that occurred. This documentary did an outstanding job of placing the viewer in the midst of what was undoubtedly a very confusing and frightening time. If one is ever worried about forgetting how they felt that day, or is concerned about becoming complacent, this will serve as a hard and fast reminder about why things changed forever, and how the world will never be the same. I would think that this would be an outstanding teaching aid for history instructors that wish to convey just what happened that day. While this isn't a movie for the squeamish (There are some very dramatic and shocking scenes), it serves as a reminder of what can happen when we, as Americans, become caught up in a naive and vulnerable society.Read full review
I bought In Memoriam - NYC 9/11/01 (2002, DVD) after seeing the film on HBO around the anniversary off that horrible day when the World Trade Center was attacked. The documentary captivated me, and brought back vivid memories of that day of destruction. There are many documentaries about 911, but this one really captures the feeling and emotions of that moment in time. The camera work and dialog I think accurately tells the story of the people responding to the attack. The only thing I found wrong with this film is it's way too short, but otherwise it's a true representation of 911. Jaimey Perham.
This video contains a wide array of video footage from 9/11/01. Some of it is shot by professionals, some by amaateurs, but all conveys the shock, horror and heroism of that day. Rudy Guliani plays a central role in the documentary, relating his actions and perceptions as the day went on. In addition to the documentary "9/11" this film should be viewed by all Americans. It focuses mainly on the events of the day, but also portrays the aftermath of the memorials and funerals of the weeks to follow. It is largely unedited and is some of the most graphic and powerful footage of the day.
