This machine is so finely crafted, so well-thought out, made to last-no plastic here! I have sewn most of my life and was not aware that such superior quality existed. There is no way to use another brand sewing machine for me now!

We bought my first Bernina, an 1130, in 1987...sewing for 5 daughters and here we are 31 yrs. later and it STILL sews like a dream. So easy to use. I made my 3rd daughter's, 5th child, whole kindergarten wardrobe on it, and just two years later sewed my oldest daughter's beautiful prom dress on it AND my second daughter's Homecoming Court dress on it. I have sewn countless other garments on it. I just made a sundress for a friend's 5 yr. old last week and am now making 20 plus aprons that are going to be Christmas gifts on it. It is a wonderful sewing machine that will last longer than anyone's lifetime if given just basic care. I also have an 830, the second one that I have bought. My Mom bought one in 1974 and I stupidly sold it to buy my 1130 in 1987. Regretted it later. Wish I had kept my Mom's, kept her sewing table though, and just gone ahead and bought the 1130 as I like them both so much. I bought a well loved, used 830 five years ago for the 3rd daughter, 5th child..lol..a few years ago and then when I found another one, I HAD to buy it so I would have one myself. With 5 daughters, you never know when someone will want or NEED a Bernina. Absolute BEST machine on the market....you will NEVER regret buying a Bernina...and I LOVE that "knee lift"!! This is the best sewing machine I have ever owned. It's easy to use, it makes beautiful stitches. While it doesn't have 1000 different useless decorative stitches, the features it does have, are well executed, practical and elegant. Five different needle positions. A one inch basting stitch. Half speed function, mirror reverse of any stitch pattern. A presser foot lifter you can raise with your knee. Purrs like a cat when it runs. Less frustration than any other machine, just keep the lint out of the bobbin case and oil it, I oil mine every two bobbins.

I have the computerized and digital Bernina 1630 and I bought the 1130 because it is so easy to use. No referencing the manual, you can just sit down and start sewing. It is a workhorse and my favorite machine. Bernina is the high-quality sewing machine you would expect and the 1130 and 1230 are two of the very best in my opinion

Absolutely the best sewing machine out there. I've used the one in college int he theatre arts costuming department. I've personally made 8 corsets of varying types, frock coats & a variety of things from bonnets to shoe straps. It goes through leather as nicely as silk. There is nothing better than the control you have with the pedal. I've walked it to get close to steel boning without breaking a needle to going super fast with straight seams. The button hole function is so much simpler than any other I've used. The machines are definitely durable as my college got theirs new & that was I think in the 80s and it never gets a break, as they also do summer productions. I cannot recommend this machine enough. I'm just thrilled to finally have my own (coming soon...just won it).Read full review
