The definitive, detailed, research effort on Georgia's Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) is still to be written. The author has drawn together some good photo history and provides a general overview of the CCC in Georgia, but readers hoping to find a comprehensive treatment of how the individual camps were organized, where they operated, and what they accomplished will be disappointed. The high-profile camps located near or supporting President Roosevelt's Warm Springs Retreat are well-covered. Likewise, several camps in the North Georgia area get some detailed treatment. The remaining camps in Georgia (and there were many) are consigned to a single mention in the book's appendices. I bought this book because my father was in the CCC in Georgia and he always believed that the experience was formative in the development of his own character and independence.Read full review
