I just purchased this book June 2008. I chose it because one thing that does not change is how to effectively grade comics. This was also published after CGC became the staple for professional comic grading. I am not a professional grader but I have wanted to improve my abilities for some time now. This book with its detailed pictures and explanations seems to accomplish my goals. The only draw back is that I wish it had a spiral binding so that it would lay flat. That way I could examine a comic and easily refer back to the guide at the same time. There are also a lot of adds to contend with as well. Perhaps they could have released a sellers guide like they do with the annual pricing guide. I would recommend this book to anyone trying establish the value of a comic with no real practical experience.Read full review
Good guide to comic grading. There are a lot of pictures of each grade, with easy to follow comments on flaws. The guide is a great primer for grading and a nice reference. I used what I read there in conjunction with pictures of graded comics to hone my skills at grading. This can help you a lot.
This is a great book

The one and only - This is it, for 36 years Overstreet is the one guide book series for comic collecting and pricing. They are the experts, the best of the best, information in this guide is compiled of information on sales and demand collected from nearly every comic book retailer in the country... The experts who work on this book not only give grading info but also much usfull info on everything from how to store, preserve and collect your comics to what makes a comic book a comic book... a must have for any comic book fan!!!!!!!!
I purchased this book to obviously learn about comic book grading. It was very informative in regards to the generalities in regards to comics but didnt help me figure out how to grade, not too much. Supplying pictures of comics in a specific grade noting the defects was good but didnt go far enough in explaining how to deduct defects to reach a certain grade. I would not buy this book again.
