A HISTORY OF THE AMERICAN LOCOMOTIVE: ITS DEVELOPMENT, 1830s-1880s (Trains) was the railroad book I purchased on EBAY. The reasons for getting this book was for the pictures and drawings that are arrayed throughout the book. Great pictures and loads of information about railroad equipment of the era. I just took a class at Wofford College in the LifeLong Learning series about trains in the south during this early history of RRs, as well as into the modern era and it perked my interest in looking for books about trains during this period. Thus, this was that book. I hope to put together a tabletop wargame (12'x6') of the Civil War RRs. That may have to wait some time, as my three S-scale (4-4-0) trains and cars will be a tad too large for my game. Just might have to purchase some N-scale locomotives and cars for my game. May have to wait for Santa to pay a few visits, though. The book is a treasure trove of pictures and line drawings that are detailed and informative. I'm glad that I was able to purchase the book. Also, I rated it FIVE STARS on this survey, but I forgot to click POSITIVE as I hit send before punching the POSITIVE. So, I hope you all understand that was my error. Read full review
