The Behringer C-1U USB condenser microphone is great for podcasting or digital home recording enthusiasts alike. It is a professional quality condenser microphone that is identical to its predecessor the Behringer C-1, with the only difference being that this microphone has a built-in USB interface to allow for fast recording with minimal preparation and accessories. You can just plug it into a computer and then start recording. USB microphones are the primary type used in professional recording studios, as well as radio stations. These types of mics are the ideal choice for recording acoustic instruments and vocals. What makes this type of mic different from dynamic microphones is the way sound is collected. The condenser microphone collects sound from the entire environment, such as a room, instead of only picking up sounds directly in front of it. As a result, it is able to capture a greater amount of detail with a cardioid pickup pattern resulting in a flatter and wider frequency response. Conventional condenser microphones are not usually able to interface with a computer unless a microphone preamplifier, as well as an analog to a USB surface, is provided. The Behringer C-1U USB solves this problem by coming equipped with a built-in USB interface that gets its power directly from a computer without requiring special drivers. It’s as easy as plugging it in and starting the audio recording. Unlike other USB microphones, there is no need to download additional drivers to begin using the microphone, and you can use it right out of the box. The Behringer C-1U USB comes with an extensive software package that features Kristal Audio Engine to multitrack and edit, Audacity for recording, as well as PodNova downloading the software and Podifier uploading software. It’s easy to use by simply connecting the mic to a PC or Mac and then loading Audacity and saving your recordings onto the hard drive. Now all you have to do is load the Kristal software to edit or add tracks, and then use Podifier to upload your audio onto the Internet. The Behringer C-1U makes it very easy to get started, but don’t be fooled by its simplicity, because this mic is a pro caliber device that delivers outstanding audio quality. It features a flat frequency response that is exceptional and has a pristine sonic resolution to ensure that audio sounds as close to the original source as possible. The Behringer C-1U features an ultra low noise and transformerless field effect transistor input circuitry that can handle the most extreme of dynamics going all the way to 136 dB. Its frequency response is ruler flat from 40Hz to 20kHz. Even revved up jet engines can be recorded without sounding distorted. The Behringer microphone is made of durable metal and features high-quality components that include a swivel stand to increase mobility. This microphone is ideal for both studio and live applications and can be confidently used with exceptional results by both the pro and amateur audio artist.

If you need a quality desk or podium microphone this will work perfectly.
Works very good. Professional quality. Perhaps too large for some people but the sound quality and added security of ridding external external interference noise was important. Certainly much better than a clip-on mic if you are walking back and forth on a stage... this model would be a little heavy for that. But the natural voice sound and highs and lows you get make this a high quality product. Works good on my Mac and with Garage Band. I bought this mic specifically for podcasting. I have had other mics over the years but this works best for close-up sound recording.

nice mic for a beginner
I set this up on my PC. The C-1U was detected and installed by Win 7 automatically with no problem. Some people who bought this item said there was a problem with the dB level being too low but I corrected this problem with an adjustment to the Windows volume level app. 1. Right click on the speakers symbol on the Windows 7 task bar 2. Select "Recording devices" from pop up menu 3. From the "Recording" device tab select the Microphone C-1U 4. Select the "Properties" button at the bottom of the device list window 5. In the "Microphone Properties" window select the "Levels" tab 6. Click on the "Microphone" slider and adjust the volume level to 100

Not compatible with windows 7 experience, do not buy!
I bought this product to record rap vocals, But having windows 7 it was completely not compatible with my computer. When I first received it, I was excited to connect and start, but after hours of research and frustration of trying to make it work with my computer ( I even tried dual booting windows xp so it could be compatible, but that didn't work either ) I just gave up because there was no way it was going to work, so I resold it. On the behringer website itself, it says it is compatible with windows 7, do not believe that... I tried everything, from downloading multiple soundcards and drivers, to even running windows xp. I can't give a review on it's performance, because I could never get it to work! Just letting people know, DO NOT BUY IF YOU HAVE WINDOWS 7, it is not compatible. A warning about the compatibility would have been great before purchasing this product, I'm very disinterested in buying from behringer ever again.Read full review
