At first blush, this may seem like an outdated exercise in vocal technique, but this collection is one of my basic tools in teaching young singers who hope to keep singing throughout their lives. In the hands of a teacher who is conversant with Italian diction, these songs help guide beginning singers, ages 13-75, towards better vocal production and appreciation of the singer's art, in any language or vocal style. Unfortunately, as with many of the accompanist CDs on the market today, the same art is not applied in the recordings of these classic songs. It is useful in learning the songs, absent a live accompanist, but pays little to no attention to the editorial markings to tempo changes or overall metronomic markings. There is no collaboration with the singer to be had in the CD, and one suspects the pianists engaged in the recording have had little experience with playing these with actual singers. What results is simply a track with no real feeling in the music, no art to inspire the budding singer.Read full review

I need this book for my theory class. I have already seen and looked at a bunch of other ones but this one i can see was the good choice. It is a nice book, with known songs and accurate IPA. A must have for Voice Majors.
