This is the one that started it all, the first of the Cliff Janeway mysteries. This is the book that got me started collecting first editions and a satisfying correspondence with the author. It's a tight, well-written adventure that keeps you riveted from the opening line, "Bobby the bookscout was killed at midnight on June 13, 1986." to the final denouement, "The books she looked at were..." No, wait, I'm not going to spoil it. Just read it. If you love books, real paper books, do not miss this one.
I love John Dunnings works, and this one started out in a compelling manner, but halfway through began to drift into more complex scenarios. Finally about 3/4 way through, I just gave up. Great writing though, and I would still go for other books of his, past & future.
