The Decline and Fall of Practically Everybody
I first read this book about 1971. Just recently I started looking for it to show to one of my young nephews who is currently in his Sophmore year in college. Not finding it in anyone of the several bookcases in my domicile I decided that it had probably crumbled into dust due to age or possibly been loaned out to my son. Loaning anything to my son is paramount to casting it onto the ocean waves. It may land on some far a way shore but will never return again to my hand. I decided to try my luck with E-bay and there I found it for sale. I bid on it and was declared the winner because no one else bid on it. I suppose one of the reasons it isn't widely popular today is that you have to be familiar with history in order to be amused by a satire of it. If you are wondering the answer is yes, I am an old geezer, who is 60yrs old. Have a nice dayRead full review

The Decline and Fall of Practically Everybody book
First read this book when I was in high school. Don't ask when that was. Without a doubt the funniest history book you will ever read. Will Cuppy, the author, peppers his books with generous and hilarious footnotes. You will never see the ancients in the same light after reading this book. Highly recommended to anyone with a sense of humor.

Did not know History could be so FUNNY. But, amazingly, not only funny but TRUE! Everyone who cares about real History should read this book. Wish he had written a book on the Civil War.

Betterr than comicbook history
I've an old, first edition of this I prize and read occasionally. It was the way I first became interested in and curious about world history and accepting that I was able to read a whole book and enjoy it. I bought a couple of these as gifts for friends with kids. Unfortunately for the teens, their parents have been enjoying the books so much the children don't get to read them. The wry and valid mini-biographies aren't laugh-out-loud funny, although that could be because I can nearly recite them by heart. But they are so nicely written that an evening's reading of a chapter or two can make a nice end even to a horrible day.
