This is a touching story about greed, wanting what you don't have, giving, and being satisfied. A quiltmaker makes quilts for people who need them. The rich king wants one! She tells him he can have one when he has given away all his things. As he gives things away, he finds out how happy it makes him to help others and that he can be happy with less. Does he end up getting a quilt? The story is charmingly told and beautifully illustrated.
This is a fabulous lesson about what matters most in life. Our local quilters' guild made a quilt from the squares that adorn each page in 2005. 21 ladies worked on it and it is spectacular. It is loaned to schools, churches and other organizations for exhibition and education. It is truly a work of art; but it would not be complete without the book. I also recommend the prequel, The Quiltmaker's Journey.

The illustrations in this book are beautiful, and the story is heart warming. This book is excellent for children, but adults (especially quilters) love the story, too.
