The second season of the anime series The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya comes with plenty of more material for followers of the popular Japanese Anime but doesn't provide the satisfaction found in Bandai's collection of the first season. Chronologically interwoven into the events of the original episodes, there is lots to see as some interesting plots unfold explaining some of the more important details of the Haruhi storyline, but the flow of episodes is almost immediately interrupted with the "Endless Eight" story arc which pretty much rehashes the same episode eight times with minor differences and not enough payoff. Luckily the series picks up again really nicely with "The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya" arc which is just pure fun for Haruhi and anime fans alike! As for the extras, the material is similar to the first season, with new episodes of The ASOS Brigade (A promotional spoof of sorts), Clean animation for the opening and the ending themes, behind the scenes footage with voice actress Aya Hirano and the animation crew and several original Japanese commercial spots which all together prove quite a lot! As for the packaging itself, all 14 episodes are collected in 4 discs and fit nicely in a special box not too different from the Anime Legends compilation of the first season. Also included is a CD containing full versions of the Opening and Ending theme songs of the series. A casual fan of Japanese animation will probably find this set entertaining as long as "Endless Eight" doesn't prove too ridiculously monotonous. While fans of the franchise won't be disappointed to see the SOS brigade back in their usual antics along with a few surprises (the episodes are practically a must to enjoy the Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya film to its fullest). In the end, a collection general anime viewers might want to check out, but highly recommended for the fans of Haaruhi Suzumiya.Read full review
Being such a big fan of the first season, I had relativity high hopes for the second. However, this season felt like it was made on a very tight budget and it feels slacked. For starters, the perfect animation from the first season has been altered and is no where near the level of animation that was present in the first season. The voice acting for the most part is still strong, however Itsuki's character falls flat. One of the main problem which many people had with this series with the infamous "Endless Eight" where one episode was replayed seven times with minor tweaks such as they never where the same clothes and the angles are different. While I to thought this was not a good way to go, after watching the movie "The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya", it does do it justice. Endless Eight was meant to annoy you, it is explained in the movie. Overall this is not a bad anime and if I had watched this before season one I may have enjoyed it more, but unfortunately this feels like it's simply trying to imitate the first season on a tight budget. It is still worth owning if you are a fan however as it does have "The sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya" which explains many things in the first season and is also needed to fully understand the movie.Read full review

This was an AMAZING buy!! I've always been a fan of the Haruhi Suzumiya series, and as soon as I found out the second season had FINALLY been dubbed, I knew I had to own it. And I was not disappointed. Everything that I had come to expect from the series was there; the quirkiness, the humor, and most of all, the SUPERLATIVE voice acting. I would highly reccommend this DVD set to any fan of Haruhi, and maybe even a few that haven't heard of it.
Most of this season is called "the endless eight" arc which is a repeat of the same episode just with different cloths! It was 8 episodes long and was horrible to get through so I wouldn't recommand buying this item unless you really want it for your collection
