All American Heritage books are always excellent, but this book presents the chronology of the Second World War with compelling images. With it's sister volume about the First World War, there is all a person needs to know about the way the failures of the peace in one led inexorably to the other. Throughout the commentary is on point, the bias is light, and the facts present are irrefutable. Where Shirer's Risa and Fall of the Third Reich is often a ponderous, bombastic screed that presents opinion as fact, The American Heritage Picture History of World War II is heavy on history, light on opinion.
