I was floored by this book when I first read it several months ago and I'm in the process of buying more copies to give to friends and family. It is an all-revealing unpacking of the Prodigal Son parable told by Jesus to the religious leaders of his day. If you're at all familiar with Pastor John MacArthur, you already know of his immense bibical knowledge and wisdom. His style of preaching and writing is to wring out every last drop of truthfulness from any bible text, delving deep into its background, meaning and application. This book is no exception. Jesus is truly a masterful teacher and MacArthur draws back the curtain of this parable to expose the bone-chilling, soul-searching truth about not only its characters, but also of its listeners and readers as well. I can't say enough good about this book. I found it to be extremely helpful in furthering my understanding of sin (both open or hidden), universal human depravity, godly grace, forgiveness and salvation.Read full review
The story of the Luke 15 parable from Jesus expounded on by Dr. MacArthur. MacArthur truly brings to life the story of the prodigal, how the actual listeners of the parable would have reacted, keen biblical insight in the culture and what we all should learn from this biblical story from Christ Himself. I highly recommend this book and all other's by John MacArthur, he is the foremost living authority on the Bible.
Although the subject matter was of course perfect because it is based on the Word of God, it did not hold my attention. It was very repetitive.

This book is excellent. I hightly recommend it.John Mac Arthur explains the story of the Prodical Son like no other can do. Has great priciples that we should all take to heart.
It was a very good tale of the Prodical Son. I like mostly the background information about how people were in the 1st century. John MacArthur has a knack for telling you how it is.
