Elizabeth was born in 1912 to an Eskimo mother, born in Shishmaref and a German father, who had been shipwrecked on the Arctic Ocean. To this union were born 14 children. Elizabeth at the age of six, had the misfortune to lose both of her legs from frost bite. In 1918,she was visiting both of her maternal grandparents and they passed away in the flu epidemic leaving her alone with no heat. The story of her survival is as an exciting bit of Alask's history that anyone would want to read. I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED THE BOOK! The courage displayed by this woman was aamazing. I think it should be made mandatory reading in all Alaskan schools.
Very interesting and informative; highly recommend this book.
