One of the biggest problems with music charts is that some artists are popular in themselves. Neil Diamond had several hits in the early 1980's as well as many in the 1970's and the 1960's. Unlike the Beatles that broke apart, Neil Diamond remains an artist that is able to sell out more than one concert in a market. Neil Diamond should definately be included in the list of timeless artists like the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, etc, who are "album" artists. Each album is different and has its own theme. Neil Diamond is often mis-categorized, sometimes being placed in soft rock, sometimes being placed in pop or top 40. Like John Denver, Neil Diamond really should have his own category, Neil Diamond. There are at least 4 issues of this CD, the first being in 1982, the Australian "japan" cd which is not quite as good as the second issue in 1986. The CD I purchased is the 1986 Digital Audio Disc pressing, and is as close to the original record as it gets. It is not processed, over equalized, clipped or compressed. It is better than the re-issue and seems to beat the box set recording of the hit song "Heartlight". This album falls under the category of soft rock, a popular style in the early 1980's. It contains many songs written or co written by Carol Bayer Sager and Burt Bacharach.Read full review
