These principles are discussed in the following pages, the first object of which is to teach how healthy old age may be attained. But in the second place, as old age is not immune from diseases, and as from disregard or ignorance of the principles of health, these are by no means few or unimportant, this book describes the diseases to which the aged are especially liable, points out how they are caused, by what means they may be avoided, and how they may be appropriately treated.
