I love this series as much as my 11 year old son. Percy Jackson is a wonderfully goofy flawed kid who also happens to be the son of Poseidon. This book follows the others (i.e. a great Quest) with Percy having to not only negotiate the tricks of the Olympian Gods but also treacherous Titans and a former friend. I'm not going to give any plot points away, I always love surprises, and Rick Riordan has twists aplenty in this book, and this longtime mystery genre reader enjoyed and was as SURPRISED as Percy at the ending. I love Rick Riordan's dry wit, I'm very glad he doesnt dumb down the writing or the action, our children are actually more intelligent than most writers give them credit for. Chapters titles like "I Learn How to Grow Zombies" make for great guessing, as my son and I try to figure out who the Gods or Monsters are before the reveal. My son actually agrees to go to bed early to get an extra chapter at night, if that isnt high praise, I don't know what is. If you havnt read the previous two books, DON'T START WITH THIS ONE, they do need to be read in order, but as each book comes out, there is no drop in quality, action or funny banter. I read somewhere on Amazon this is the third of five books. That is the only sad thought, we only have two more books to enjoy Percy, Annabeth, Grover the Goat boy, Mr. D and all the rest of Camp Half Blood.Read full review

I am amazed and fascinated by Rick Riordan's books and not for the good reasons. If you are expecting to read a really cheap version of Harry Poter's books and if you are 8 years old or not smart enough to see all the mistakes in the book, buy it, it will keep you entertain. I need to read the next two books, because I just can't believe the nerve of this saga. My opinion has been the same for the first 3 books and I do not expect it to change on the last 2, but I have to see it with my own eyes.
