There are several hints throughout the book that this is meant to be a soap opera. The nods to Santa Barbara and the all around feel of the book let’s you know right away you’re in the Stephen King soap world, and what a messed up world it is. A compelling town, compelling characters and deliciously awful villain made this one of my favorite King novels of all time

This story reminds me of The Tommyknockers in a lot of ways. Of course the story is set in Maine and the folks in an otherwise tranquil albeit eccentric town start to behave strangely because of a new resident. But like the Tommyknockers, this book is over 700 pages and introduces many, many characters that add to the town's charm, but make the story a little tedious to get through. Suspenseful and the villian is great to love to hate.
''Twas an excellent purchase

Bought this for my son. Stephen King is all he'll read! He says he's a Stephen King snob. Will NOT read any other author. So it must be good :o)
