This is a pet project by Nicholas Shreck & Zeena LaVey, made while Schreck was still in good graces with Manson. That didn't last long. The editing is just awful, the writing is trite, Zeena & Nick don't have the first idea how to narrate a motion picture ... but it's still great! Why? Because Charles Manson gets a chance here to speak his mind. If you're a Manson-hater, this little film won't change your mind and if you're a Manson-fan, this won't discourage you. While it's all well & good that this has been released on DVD, I highly suggest trying to find the original VHS release; the DVD suffers from some of the worst mpeg encoding I've ever seen. The original VHS looks great and this DVD is barely tolerable. If you're not very picky, though, the DVD is just fine. No extras (although hours of material that was cut out still exists and is privately traded) and the audio is mono.Read full review

This is one of the most awesome movies of all times. Nikolas Schrek was a close friend of Charlies. He is an awesome writer. He is the truth and that is why I wanted this. I love anything Manson.

Departing from the footsteps of "Manson" (1973) or any of the modern shock "documentaries" made by questionably reliable made for TV programs, this provides an uninhibited look at Charles Manson, a video companion to Schreck's book "The Manson File." Seeing Manson more or less coherent is something most people will be unfamiliar with- instead of the usual egging on of Charles we see with, for example, Geraldo Rivera in the 1980s or Tom Snyder in the 1970s, Schreck chose to ask simple, pointed questions without insinuating Manson was insane or evil- which caused a unique and open response. The rest of the documentary footage is amazing, and the truth about the case, and the man supposedly behind it- is revealed starkly.
This is probably the best interview from Manson, he is lucid through most of the interview and not acting like an idiot. He gives his side of the story without the craziness that is his usual habit. Although he has a very slanted view of the murders, it is interesting to hear his reasoning ( if you can call it reason). This is a great video for anyone winterested in the Manson case.
