My father in law was a member of the 17th airborne division, 513th pir. He never spoke much of his time in the Battle of the Bulge, or the parachute jump over the Rhine. We family members knew that it was a very bloody ordeal. I am still reading this book, and finding that everyone that crossed the Rhine overhead that day, be it the pilots, glider troops,or paratroopers, all did something that they carried with them the rest of their lives. I marvel that they were able to keep their sanity. I plan on rereading it many times, to absorb all that the book tells. I myself am a veteran, and his son also. Although we did not see combat, what he did and saw was more than a human needs to endure. This book puts you next to the men that were there that day. Very well written, and I am glad that it was written. 70 years has passed since he jumped out of the plane into a Hell, wanting to be elsewhere I'm sure. Well done troopers. And well done Steven L Wright.Read full review
