My 59 year old husband recently had open heart surgery. The doctors told us that sodium was his biggest concern. I have always tried to cook healthy, but had no idea that we were consuming so much salt. I tried Mrs. Dash and all sorts of other things to make my old recipes taste good, but it wasn't working. I have had this book for about two weeks now and have not had a bad meal out of it . My husband is giving praise about how good things are tasting. I'm not kidding, he's a hard sell. I don't recommend waiting until somebody that you love has a heart attack before you try this book. It's got great recipes and give content information for not only sodium, but many other things that you may be watching in your diet. You won't be sorry if you buy this book and USE it.

I recently had heart surgery, and am now on limited sodium intake. There is not much positive information out there, and most low-sodium food I've tried is not worth a second helping! This book not only gives excellent recipes, but tells you where to find products I did not even know existed (low sodium baking powder and baking soda? It's out there!). Gives recipes for homemade cream of mushroom soup; salt-free taco seasoning; many spice blends, sauces, and mixes. Like rice-a-roni? Miss your southern biscuits? Even has homemade sausage recipes! Tells all about additives and pitfalls. Gives label-reading instructions and "secret" information. This book is far more than a recipe book, and I was quite impressed! This is my second copy--I bought it for my dad because I wasn't about to loan him mine! I cannot reccommend it enough!Read full review
I am on a low sodium diet. This cookbook is exactly what I was looking for. The author has congestive heart failure too.

Book is very good, easy to read, easy to follow instructions. It's a great way to jump into the lo/no-sodium diet. The book has recipes that everyday people eat(which is better then some of the other cook books I have bought). The only thing I would say is I like food VERY spiced and generally more heat then average, so I generally boost the spices and cayene in most of the recipes. Overall the best lo-sodium cookbook I have gotten, would reccomend to ANYONE!!!!
I recently got the cookbook to find a few lower sodium recipes. After making a few of the dishes. I was surprised at how simple and easy it is to use compared to other cookbooks. The dishes are a variety and wonderful also.
