Airport is The First of the Disaster Genre' of the 1970's and with the All Star Cast lends to a very well acted film. Nominated for 9 Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Cinematography with Helen Hayes winning the Oscar for Best Supporting Role. Other than a very wonderful all star cast and a good story, the all time goof is the [model] Jet Plane they used in the exterior plane shots which eventually inspired the satirical comedy - Airplane in 1980. Unfortunately [back then] shooting real aircraft in the sky at night was either not in the budget or was scrapped due to other factors, so they used a model plane for these very brief shots in the movie. Also to note is that back then Hollywood did not have computers for special effects, unlike now. Other than this silly Very small part of the movie, this is a Great Movie that never lags [as do So many films of the era] and is compelling all the way through. Highly Recommended Film from back in the early 1970's by anyone then or even now during contemporary times. A True Classic that Hold Up to This Day! - Please Note: I bought this movie on Blu-ray Disc and on my 48" HDTV the film looks absolutely spectacular..!!!Read full review
This Blu-Ray transfer was beautifully done. It was like seeing the movie for the first time at the theater. I used to live near the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport in 1968 when this was filmed there and remember seeing casting calls for extras in the newspaper. The film premiered at the Cooper Cineram Theater in Minneapolis. Very entertaining film. Loved it then and still do. Very nice music score, as well. If you are a fan of the "Airport" movies, I definitely recommend having this Blu-Ray copy in your collection.

I have always liked this movie. It arrived when it was supposed to. The packaging was very good and that movie has always been entertaining. I think it is the best one of all the airport movies that they made. They did a very nice job with Hi Def picture and surround sound considering it is an older picture. It was made in 1970 and renewed in 1997. It is 1080p with 5.1 sound. It plays very nice on the surround sound home theatre.
