All of the 1919 issues are rare in circulated grades and very rare in high grades. The 1919 Philadelphia Walking Liberty half dollar is the second rarest Philadelphia Mint Walker, only the very low mintage 1921 is rarer. In Gem condition, the 1919 is very rare, but there some examples available from time to time, including a small number of Superb Gem MS66s and a small handful of MS67s.
The typical 1919 Walker is very well struck for an early date Walker. I cannot recall seeing a mint state example that didn't have a sharp head and hand. Luster can be frosty or semi-satiny. Apparently a small number were saved as there are some white frosty Gems known.
Nothing exemplifies American history more than the Walking Liberty Silver Half Dollar. All Walking Liberty denominations are awesome; but there is something special when holding a silver dollar and a half dollar. These are my personal favorites of all the silver coins. Most Walking Liberty Half dollars are worn because they were very popular in their day and continue to be extremely popular to the collector. In addition, up until 1970's, half dollars held very good purchasing power and were easy to carry. I highly recommend these coins, not only for a solid investment, but for your children and grandchildren's future as well. Owning these coins is a wise decision and will always carry value; no matter what paper money is worth.
