I am an almost daily sew-er and I used my original machine for 17 years before it needed serviced beyond my capabilities, and before that it was my moms, and before that it was her Aunts. I loved it so much that I HAD to purchase this one as a backup machine because the brand new one I went to the store and bought to use while mine was in the shop was CRAP. If you can find one for a price you can afford, do not let it slip past you.

This machine is great and it came with all the accessories except the carrying case. However the machine was seized up and had to be serviced to get it working. Once it was serviced though it worked well and is an excellent machine. My sister is thrilled that I bought it for her.

The Singer 431g, made in Germany in 1964/65 is one of the finest and rarest sewing machines ever made. Never imported into the U.S. It was the just the 3rd "free-arm made by Singer. It is the "Cadillac" of the 400 Series. Very quite when sewing and it always makes a perfect stitch. It is very easy to maintain. They don't come up for sale very often, but when they do, they are snapped up quickly by Singer collectors. They are expensive to buy, but if you like to sew, I would highly recommend this machine, as it will last many life times over. I purchased mine, as I do sew, but I am a long time Singer collector, over 30 years now. The only two draw-backs with this machine that I can think of is: they don't sew well using plastic bobbins and you don't achive a good looking stitch, if you use a 100% polyester thread. They sew best using cotton or cotton covered polyester thread and a metal bobbin. You can't help not to love everything this machine will do for you. As to compare this machine to others, there just isn't much to compare with. This is the top of the line in vintage Singer slant needle sewing machines.Read full review
These machines were built in the late 1950's through early 1960's and mine works like it is brand new. Very smooth machine. Very powerful. There is a slight learning curve but once you get comfortable with the machine it is very capable.
