From the 1840s to the late 1860s, thousands of people made the difficult wagon journey west on the Oregon Trail. Along the way, they had to cook over open fires, sleep and eat in tents or outdoors, and care for their animals. Often, they also interacted with the American Indians whose land they passed through. Follow Clara Morgan, a fictional character, as she struggles to make biscuits over the fire--and earns a Lakota friend when she is compelled to give away the batch she finally got right.
