The only thing I do not like about this sharpener is its small size, but that could be an advantage when carrying in my pack to touch up my hand axe or knife. Will not put a final shaving sharp edge because even the fine half is a bit too coarse for final honing, but will put a field utilitarian edge on an axe or knife so I consider it a useful sharpener. Use oil or water on the stone, never use dry.

I carry a lot of edged tools. At least 5 every time I'm in the great outdoors. Although you can, in fact, sharpen tools with the right stones, I don't have to search for those stones when I need to sharpen something. Take a knee, or a seat, a use the puck. It's never failed me. If you're into sharpening your tools with stones you find in "the wild", enjoy. Otherwise, buy one of these, drop it in a pocket, and go have some fun.

Ive used this on my lopper cutter and machete. Worked very well. After a few uses, I find that it works great and easy to handle and store. Most of the time you dont need a vise as you would with a regular file.
