This is an older edition of a cookbook. I had this same cookbook when I was young. Somewhere it was lost. There was one particular recipe that was in there that we had made. I always remembered that we loved it. I have never found there recipe anywhere else. I was thinking of giving my granddaughter a cookbook for her to start with. I used eBay's search engine just looking for something that would be easy for a young girl to understand. This popped up in my list. I was stunned because I recognized it as the one I had used, So I bought it. It is difficult to know what dto expect sometimes with eBay because everyone had a different view of what "good" and "very good" means. So I was pleasantly surprised when this was much better than I expected.

‘Betty Crocker’s Cookbook for Boys and Girls’, is quite a good vintage cookbook that still has endearing recipes for children today. Originally published in the 1950's and reprinted in the 1960’s and 1970’s, the book includes instructions for basic cooking techniques, measuring, and utensils as well as a selection of recipes in the categories of campfire cooking, breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and extra special occasions. The instructions and recipes are basic enough for children to be able to make themselves, with very creative and attractive results. The recipes include mostly common ingredients and there are many illustrations throughout the book to offer creative ideas for making meals, as well as party and display ideas, made from very simple household materials also. There are pages of photographs of many of the finished recipes including, cookies with faces, holiday cakes, long john silver sandwiches, raggedy Ann salad, potato boats and pigs in blankets. Some of the recipes include: *Drum Cake *Extra Special Drinks *Paintbrush Cookies *Zoo Cake *Heart Cake *Easter Hat Cake *Eskimo Igloo Cake *Clown Cup Cakes *Ice Cream Cone Cakes *Good Kid Cookies *Kabobs *Doughboys *Eggs in a Frame *Branded Pancakes *Pigs In blankets *Hamburgers *Breads *Cereal Faces *Cheese Dreams *American Pizza *Long John Silver Sandwich *Desserts *Raggedy Ann Salad *Three Men in a Boat *Cookies (spiral bound 192 pages)Read full review
I love this cookbook! I got the original from my mom in 1957 when I was 7, and have used it for some of it's basic recipes ever since. I saw this copy, and got it because my original copy is falling apart. This has the BEST basic meatloaf recipe ever! All of my friends, and now my kids' friends just love it! That one recipe alone has been worth the price of the book, as everyone asks about it and wants it, even those who "don't like meatloaf"! Since it IS a kids' cookbook, and things are broken down to make it easy to learn to cook, it still holds up teaching the basics in a simple straightforward way. I think some of the updated versions may be a little more modern, but this one still works for me.
This cookbook is certainly dated, but for me, there is so much nostalgia. I learned to cook with this book, oh, so many years ago. My grandchildren now make the brownies and the sugar cookies are a regular treat. It was written pre-cake mix, so everything is 'from scratch'. A great way to learn the basics.

I had this cookbook when I was young and used it until my daughter was a child then lost it somewhere along the way. It's fun to have a brand new book with the same simple recipes from every meal to snacks and desserts. I have never found an apple crisp recipe I like better than the one in this book. I'm excited to be able to share this treasured cookbook with my granddaughter.
