From the Hasbro character G.I. Joe comes to life on the big screen in the story of The Rise of Cobra.
In the film, Christopher Eccleston is a weapons developer who creates the ultimate NANO tech weapon that he is selling to the UN. When Duke and RIp Cord are ambushed while attempting delivery of the weapon they are rescued by General Hawk's team and taken to his secret base where they join his team and try to discover who is behind the theft and eliminate them.
The movie is full of action and adventure and is a great movie for anyone who loves a good action adventure movie.
This cast of stars includes: Dennis Quaid (General Hawk), Channing Tatum (Duke/Conrad Hauser), Marlon Wayans (Rip Cord), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Cobra Commander), Sienna Miller (The Baroness). Ray Park (Snake-Eyes) and Christopher Eccleston (James Mcullen).
Recommended for anyone who loves a great action flick.Read full review
You want action? Well, you got it and what a better way to usher us out of the first decade of the new millenia than to have a real, home grown American made, true-to-life G.I. Joe film brought to you by the one and only Stephen Sommers who is best known for "The Mummy" films and 2004s Van Helsing.
My favorite film star and tough beauty of 2009 has to be hands down Rachel Nichols who plays Scarlett, the G.I. Jane who winds up helping Ripcord save the United States from annihilation. She also played in Star Trek 2009 as Cadet Gaila from Orion (the roommate of young Uhura at Starfleet Academy). I'm glad to see her be the bombshell up and coming redhead heroine of the future. She's got some good films under her belt and I'm sure we'll soon see more of her.
The Baroness comes off as a little too evil, which, in some circles, makes men excited, but she plays the role just like a black widow spider or a female preying mantis would. She helps kill her husband Baron de Cobray (Gregory Fitoussi) Sienna, you are much more effective with black hair and black leather.
Having all real "American" heroes was not as important as possibly having a team of the best represent the New World Order of G.I. Joes since Hasbro needs to sell these toy world-wide. We have to make them better and give them unlimited technology and fire power because they are the total elite troops with highly classified tech weapons, toys, and vehicle for any occasion. Having futuristic toys help to lift this into fantasy-land, than an all out US Military commercial selling the virtues of why Uncle Sam needs you.
Unlike Michael Bay's invade-and-conquer type of US troops, these guys do get arrested after they unleash their weapons of mass destruction, diplomatic immunity not withstanding afterwards.
The Duke/Conrad Hauser (Channing Tatum) seems to be the lead man in the film along with his buddy Ripcord (Marlon Wayans). Supposedly, they let their friend Rex Lewis (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) die in an accident, but later we find him playing the doctor (meaning Dr Mindbender was actually played by 2 different people. I'll mention Said Taghmaoui (Breaker) & David Murry (McCullen 1641).
As you may already know, Kevin J. O'Connor, who played Doctor Mindbender, usually gets to play an important role in Stephen Sommers films. Also we see Arnold Vosloo (Mummy Imhotep) as the bad guy who is injected with the nanobytes.
Supermodel Karolina Kurkova gets to play Cover Girl Courtney A. Kieger and makes it to about half-way through the film before she perishes at the hands of Storm Shadow (Byung-hun Lee). Although it wasn't mentioned anywhere but the credits, Brandon Fraiser had a very brief cameo in this film, which must have been a little present for film watchers and producers of film alike. You'll have to catch it quickly because it's not expected.
Jonathon Price does a remarkable job as the U.S. President as well as Ray Park (Darth Maul) with his character Snake Eyes. Dennis Quaid was perfect as General Hawk as well a Christopher Eccleston as James McCullen.
As we have been told by the industry, the CGI computer masters I.L.M. (Industrial Lights & Magic) jokingly created the "Stephen Sommers Scale" to measure the extent of digital effects used in film. There are four parts of the scale starting from lowest to highest. They go like this: 1."What The Shot Needs", 2."What The Computers Can Handle", 3."Oh My God, The Computers Are About To Crash", and finally 4."What Stephen Wants".Read full review
This is big-budget summertime popcorn entertainment following a typical Hollywood formula. There are great CGI effects (especially the Eiffel tower collapse), explosions, and sound effects that will tax a home theater system. The film is fast-paced and moves quickly from one action set piece to another. The plot is convoluted and there are plenty of hints there will be a sequel (depending on box-office take). What is missing is real character development, but that is not the intent here. Blu-ray picture and sound are top-notch. Like fast food, filling but not rewarding, and will probably wear thin after several viewings.
I love the GI Joe movies and I love the men they pick to play in these films I can look at them all day long it's action-packed and it's great I just hope they make about five more GI Joe films and please stay away from political correctness just give us the people that can act that are good looking and let us just have movies not reflect Our lives cuz not everybody has an Asian cooking in their kitchen with them not everybody has black friends not everybody has white friends even though we're bringing back the 60s hippie Oso will be together we don't have to eat with each other and sleep with each other in order to have a well-rounded life and many friends of ethnic backgrounds but political correctness but these films were very good
A must see for G.I. Joe fans of the cartoon series .
This was one of the best adaptation of a cartoon series. The action sequences and sets were excellently done. A good movie for any G.I. Joe fan who grew up with the cartoon series.
