Edward Deravenel's success with women was no secret and earned him a reputation, but his real prowess was in the boardroom. The time is now 1918, and the war is over and Edward has every confidence that his empire will flourish again, despite his brother George's recklessness. George is a notorious gambler who is always in debt. Edward knows George is not above a little blackmailing, but disloyalty? The house of Deravenel meets with tragedy and its fortune's are reversed. Edward's beautiful daughter, Bess, who steps forward with her son Harry. Can Harry fill his shoes against other family members who are hungry for the power? "The Heir" is full of passion, betrayal and treachery and once again establishes Ms. Bradford as a best selling author of drama.
Barbara Taylor Bradford is at her best when writing comprehensive family stories. Again, she has done an outstanding job of conveying not only the problems, but the pleasures of family and extended family. Written in the classic style as "A Woman of Substance," this book/series certainly warrants reading and rereading. An excellent read, well written, with good character development. This is another addition to my BTB library.
Enjoyed reading this book and passed it on to a small local library.
