Prior to purchase of this radio I was using a Kenwood. Very inexpensive radio thus you only get what you pay for. Kenwood was light but built so poorly that I was afraid if you drop it the case would crack. Speaker microphone or radio speaker not very clear. Picked up a lot of RF when near certain types of electronic components. I had to get this radio for my job quickly and was short on cash to buy a Motorola. This model of Motorola is great due to the display screen and the ability to name channels without guessing which one you are on. Has many features and options, some I use, some I may not but there if needed. As indicated in the review, it is not lightweight but I like it that way. Motorola can take abuse or accidental bumps or dropping where the Kenwood would not. The only problem I had with this radio (it was new in the box) it was manufactured to go to the Latin America Region which made programming difficult since the tech I knew had only the software for the North America Region. Although with much research he did find a fix and the radio is working fine. I had no idea about this manufacturing region issue since I did buy it in the U.S. Explained to me that surplus buyers may not always know where the radio was originally headed, thus I do not blame the seller. I highly recommend this radio if it fits your frequency and network specs. Only recommendation I have if buying from a surplus seller, try to find out if they know the region the radio was manufactured for. It will make things a lot easier when finding a tech to program.Read full review

This radio was in fact a Motorola HT 1250 LS which is a 16 channel trunking radio. It does not have the channel capabilities of the HT 1250. Nonetheless, the radio works as advertised. It is small, lightweight, good audio considering the size and long battery life. I would not recommend it for front line public safety because of the problematic battery connector that plague this slip on battery design. Fire fighters will have problems utilizing the controls if wearing gloves.

The HT1250 is a very good portable two way radio. Small in size and weight. Has all the bells and whistles. I am using the HT1250 for VHF Low Band operation in the 47 Mhz range. The radio is rugged and the battery system is very good. It is very hard to find low band radios in this day and age but the Motorola HT1250 fits the bill. Would recommed the HT1250 model radio to everyone. The programming can be a bit challenging. This is definately a professional use radio.
Excellent product. Very rugged, light weight, and easy to use. A very nice piece of professional grade communications equipment. Already in service, and performing optimally.
