This was a very short book (under 200 pages). That said, how long can you make a story about a bunch of jocks waiting for their coach to die remembering their old games in a town that lives and dies on high school football.

Bleachers by John Grisham is a great book. John Grisham is a master at weaving together stories, and this is one of his best. The story begins in a town called Messina, where football is everything. After coaching for many years, the former football coach, Rake, is slowly loosing his battle with cancer. Many of his players have come from all over to pay their respects to their coach, one in particular, named Neely Crenshaw, the former "All-American" quarterback who hasn't been back to Messina in a long time. Now Neely revisits old friends, remembers his glory days, and pays his respects to his coach. But he also must decide: Does he love or hate Coach Rake.

I purchased Bleachers because I enjoy John Grisham's books. This was a short and fast reading book. I did not enjoy this book as much as others that the auhor wrote. I did not find Bleachers at all interesting. It was a time line of a high school coach's lifetime achievements and lacked depth into developing the main characters. I would recommend Bleachers to football fans who are looking for an easy and quick book.
