History: I used a blackberry pearl 8100 a few years ago and disliked it. The reason for this is because it was horrendously slow; the hourglass just randomly starts spinning for what seems like minutes sometimes even though I have around 30mb of flash remaining, so it cant be because i have too many installed application. I tried reinstalling the blackberry OS but it still does the same thing. I have a few other dislikes about it but nothing as frustrating as not being able to use the phone. Actual review: I got this 8830 as a temporary phone until my htc hero gets repaired under warranty for vast accumulation of screen dust. Note: I did get this used, so the paint on the phone's keys are somewhat chipped away, the trackball is discolored, and it looks like it was dropped on its side on pavement a couple times. Performance: This phone is fast compared to the 8100 even though it has half the specifications! I'm still wonder how that works out. It boots up in a little over a minute, so not bad at all. I rarely get that hourglass unless I'm installing something. I basically have this phone packed with running applications (7mb remaining flash memory) like facebook integration, bb messenger, and pandora...and it's extremely stable. Build quality: This phone feels like it was made to last a long time. The battery door doesn't have any wiggle. There isn't any flex in the phone at all. All the keys work perfectly after years of use. Negatives: The amount of flash memory in this phone leaves MUCH to be desired, which is why I knocked it one point. The lack of camera can be seen as a negative but if it did have optics, then you wont be able to use it in security clearance areas. This phone cannot be upgraded with the new 5.0 OS. I assume that the phone's minuscule ram, flash memory, and processor can't handle it. Conclusion: So for an old phone, this performs extremely well. If you need a cheap ( 50USD) backup smartphone, this is the phone to get!Read full review
Upon looking at different phones for my older sister, I needed something that could keep contacts, do facebook, get emails, calender and events. So I stumbled upon this Black Berry. It is a fairly good phone, with some of the basic and advance necessities met. Although the lack of a camera sort of sets the user back by a couple years, it makes up for it by creating an inviting arena of software and applications. However, one issue with this phone - and with pretty much all Black Berry's - is the track ball. I don't know what made people invent a ball that if enough pressure is placed on it it'll click and turn things on with out even being touched, but it was a bad idea. There is also sometimes that the phone loads randomly and it could be annoying, but that's only during the first time you access your applications, then it becomes workable. Good phone overall, could be great if it wasn't for that track ball.Read full review
I am a Sprint customer. I was using the LG Rumor. I intially set out to buy the Blackberry 8330. I bought this one instead on accident(not reading all the info)however I am not disappointed, this is my first Smartphone. The phone is great my only complaint is that it does not have a camera, however the functions of the phone makes up for that. It has a great web browser, tons of great Apps, lots of support and you can customize just about everything. My seller was great and so is the overall experence with the phone so far.
I like rhe blackberry models, my dislike is that I need a more up to date model the 8530. I had no insurance so when my 8530 was lost/stolen I could not afford a new on. Ebay solved that problem, I am very satisfied, I will be up grading to a 8530 through ebay soon, the 8830 does not have a camera does not have a good browser. Everything else is very good. I make calls and receive, text, email and listen to music.
The product overall was beautiful, the only thing it lacks is a camera, which for some people is a big downfall. The phone call quality was better than what I'd expected, and the keys are big and very easy to use. Not a fan of the track-ball, but everything takes time to get used to. Email interface very smooth.
